Through the square window . . .

When I was small there was a television programme
Aimed at small people like me, and it featured a
Selection of windows.
Each episode one window would be 'gone through'

And some story or activity discovered in the special
Land through the window.
When I grew up it was obvious that life was hidden
Behind a series of windows and my choices were the
Adult equivalent of looking through a square or round
Window and choosing the world revealed.
I chose my window and have lived my life in that
Window's world - and ever since I have wondered
What my life might have been if I had chosen
A different window.
Perhaps in that other life I might have known happiness
And had success, worked and studied and felt fulfilled,
And perhaps I would never have known what it is like
To worry from one minute to the next about food and
Money to pay the rent and the bills.
Perhaps in that other life I would have been loved?
But I chose the wrong window you see.

The prompt today was to describe what you could see through a window - so I stretched it a bit.
